D. Beacom & Sons Insurance is proud to offer policies from The Harleysville Group, which was merged with Nationwide in 2012. Now, as part of one of the largest insurance and financial service organizations in the United States this company still offers outstanding customer service and policies.
A brief history:
Harleysville began in 1915 as an “Auto Theft Association” formed by the citizens of Harleysville as a variation of a horse theft society, which would help its’ members to recover from the loss of stolen automobiles.
Harleysville operated as a private entity for the first few years. Members of the group would pay a small fee into a fund. That fund was then used to reimburse the members for the replacement and recovery costs in case their autos were stolen. In October of 1917, the association was forced to charter by the state and formed two mutual companies so that they could continue to operate.
The company and operations continued to grow, and after a series of acquisitions and expansion of services , in 1979 the Harleysville Group was formed. In 1986 they “went public”, operating in 32 states under the unified brand of Harleysville.
Today, as a member of the Nationwide family, Harleysville’s commitment to outstanding customer service and claims handling continues to make this underwriter “Good people to know”. In 2012, The Harleysville Group merged with Nationwide, one of the largest insurance and financial service organizations in the United States. Today, as a member of the Nationwide family, with their continued commitment to customer service and claims handling , this underwriter is still “Good people to know”.
